Parent Duty Guideline

Why parent-duty?

1. Keep the MMCS operating and at low cost
2. Keep MMCS safe and pleasant for everyone
3. Get parents involved in school activities

What are the duties in general?

Parent duty includes but is not limited to (see following section for guidelines):

1. Supervise student activities outside the classroom to assure safety
2. Make certain that no student is outside classroom or the facility without approval from parents on duty during class
3. Make sure that no strangers lurking at school premises during school hours
4. Make sure all rooms used (classroom, washroom, and rest room), hallway, and lobby clean and organized after school
5. Assist student entering the class building, especially at winter
6. Assure every student (child) leaving the facility with his/her guardian (i.e. parent or designated adult), and no student is left alone.
7. Be the first aid resource to students and teachers
8. Log and report any incident of injury, property damage, and rule-break behavior

Who is asked for duty?

A parent of each child student currently enrolled in a MMCS class is required to serve for parent-duty at least for one school day.

When does the duty start and end?

Start: 15 minutes before class (i.e. 1:45 PM)

End: After classes (including after-school class) over and students leave. If at the time there is any student not picked up, the duty team must make sure the student is not left alone.

Parent duty guide

A team of parents is scheduled on duty for each school day. Probably nobody agrees that it is easy to deal with a group of kids. A set of rules have been made and communicated to MMCS students and their parents.
These activities and behaviors are not allowed for MMCS students

1. Going outside the building during class break
2. Going outside the building without the company of his/her guardian(s) or a designated adult at any time
3. Leaving school before class ending without the teachers’ approval
4. Playing equipment not related to Chinese class activities
5. Having food or colored drink in classroom.
6. Chasing each other inside or outside the building
7. Fighting each other orally or physically.
8. Wandering around in the building other than staying in your classroom during class sessions. If you have to stay in restroom for a while, have somebody know
9. Engaging in unsafe activities that could result in injuries, for example, climbing or hanging on anything, throwing, etc.
10. Engaging in activities that could result in property damage
11. Possessing weapons of any kind such as long knives.

If you have any question on whether certain activities or behaviors are compliant, please ask a parent who is on duty.

Team leader responsibility

1. Remind your team members to duty before the school day
2. Have necessary information (school directory, classroom/building) available
3. Find help if the team is short-handed
4. Coordinate the team activities
5. Summarize and submit information to the board if necessary. The information should include parents who missed/served their duties, any incidents that caused body-injury or property damage, and un-proper behaviors that broke any school rules in detail
6. Contact necessary parties

Team member responsibility

1. Read parent duty guidelines and understand what your duty is
2. Please arrange a switch with other parent if you cannot perform your duty on the particular day assigned and inform your team leaders.
3. Make sure you (or one you can trust) to serve the duty as scheduled in time
4. Report to the team at parent room (subject to change, please follow with your team leader)
5. Follows your team leader’s assignment, and understand your responsibilities
6. Make sure students follow the rules. Use your common sense to stop an improper behavior if it is not specified in student rules
7. When a child leaves the building, ask him/her who he/she is leaving with and who are his parents to assure the student leaves with proper company
8. When classes are over and students leave or start their after-school classes, check each classroom and make sure everything is organized.
9. Proactively work with teachers to assure safety and security.
10. If your team leader fails to come-in, volunteer yourself to be team leader.
